How to Install a Glass Kitchen Splashback

Updated: Nov 28, 2022

Our exclusive vintage mirror and reeded kitchen splashbacks are available in our online store or in bespoke sizes for a self-installation solution to the back of a kitchen hob whether electric or gas.

Developed in specific sizes to match all hobs they are easy to install as soon as you take it out of the box. Your splashback although made from toughened glass should be handled with care and should never be placed directly on any hard surfaces such as floor tiles, granite worktops or tiles.

Remember your splashback is prone to shattering if the edge of the glass meets these surfaces especially as the glass is at its most vulnerable when it is not fitted to the wall. Stand your splashback upright on wood or carpeted surfaces and try to fit your splashback asap. Always wear gloves and protective glasses when handling your splashback. Always keep unfitted glass in a safe place and keep away from children.

Prepare your walls as you would with any wall-covering application, making sure it is a solid structure that you are applying it to. Preferably a flat surface is best for the splashback but they have been stuck directly to brick in the past but just make sure the surface is level.

Apply mirror adhesive to the back of the glass, this is painted a solid black colour, to not mix up the front and back. Making sure that acid free mirror adhesive is specified, such as 'mirror-fix' or an adhesive supplied by Forentina and Linet. Adhere this glue by gun to the back of the mirror surface and all you do then is stick it on the wall! Easy! It will adhere quickly but hold it or tape it in place overnight until you are sure it has stuck in place.

They are easy to clean with glass cleaner or a damp cloth so both grease and food marks can be easily removed. Forentina and Linet manufacture all of these vintage mirror products in-house and by-hand making it a truly unique product whilst being very functional.
